Right 2 Smile is a Maltese NGO (VO/0583 ) that brings together responsible volunteering with community development projects all over the world. We began our journey in Kenya in 2012, taking up the first groups of volunteers to visit our project on the Maasai land. Together with the local community, we discussed their needs and found ways to respond to them in a sustainable way. We took this same approach with our local partners in India, Cambodia, Colombia and Malta. Our ultimate aim is to empower locals with the skills, belief and facilities to become self-sustainable.

We aim to work on three pillars: ∞ Education ∞ Health ∞ Sustainability

We’re committed to gender equality in our work so that men and women have equal opportunities to realize their potential.

“We strive to build trust between people across cultures.”

Right to Smile is an NGO run by people, volunteers themselves, who have felt the magic of being on the projects and who have been moved to continue contributing and receiving so much energy back. Right to Smile gives us a platform to be creative, to be part of a family of motivated and inspired individuals and to see our work manifest with the people we have come to love across the world. Our ultimate aim is for our input to eventually be providing minimal support and for the communities we work with to be self-sustained and empowered.

A child’s smile… this is what it’s all about. I believe in equal opportunities and we should do our utmost to protect the Rights of the Child. I started Right to Smile in 2011 and it has created a wave of positive smiles and opportunities to children that has kept us motivated an reaching more children around the world whilst educating volunteers through our Volunteer Placements.
This is my Peaceful Revolution a Smile Revolution 🙂

I love working with children – their energy and purity captivates me. So in early 2014, I was thrilled to join the first groups who volunteered with Right2mile projects in India.

As a community social worker, I was excited by the potential of what was possible in continuing to work with the community villages. I believe wholeheartedly in the values and ethos of Right2Smile.

Inspired by the hands-on and long-term approach of Right2Smile’s Projects, I joined this beautiful community in 2013.  With the growing number of volunteers, a need for more structure came up and that’s where I started helping out – trying to make things easier and more efficient for the organization and its volunteers.

My name is Svetlana, 26 years old, an early years teacher in a state school. My great joy in working with kids led me to fulfill my dream to volunteer in kenya. Visiting my Masaii family twice was an experience which truly helped me discover the true value and happiness of life. My volunteer experience gave me the opportunity to be part of Right2Smile.

One World. One Smile.

Right to Smile volunteers now travel to sustainable development projects around the globe experiencing life-enhancing, interactive, cultural experiences.

We are committed to inspiring the global community of the next generation of leaders and change-makers through the development of meaningful relationships between different people around the world.

All this with the aim of putting a smile on the children’s face because…

Every Child In The World Has The Right To Smile

We believe that every child in the world should have equal opportunities to an education and a decent standard of living, to be encouraged to follow their dreams and equal opportunities to flourish into knowledgeable adults who want to pay it forward.

We Work to Safeguard Every Child’s Equal Right to Smile

Right to Smile is a volunteer organisation offering authentic volunteer projects which immerse the volunteer in cultural interaction, humanitarian work, and challenging educational and adventure activities.

To us, the volunteering experience is a two-way gain as the direct engagement between the volunteers and children in the global communities sparks an exchange of knowledge, skills and values that educates all.

We know the best approach to international volunteering – the only approach – is one designed by the community. Right to Smile creates long-standing relationships with locally run organisations. The projects are organic in the best sense of the word: they have grown out of the needs and objectives of local communities. These are communicated to the Right to Smile team so that our volunteers can work alongside local people and make a sustainable impact.

Right to Smile is a completely self-sustainable non-profit, totally transparency in all operations is one of the core pillars of our organisation.

  • Our volunteer placement programs generate enough revenue to cover administration costs.
  • Donations are 100% invested in our existing local community development projects in Kenya and India.
  • Funds raised through events organised by the Right to Smile team and volunteers are invested in project development and expanding our reach to more countries around the world.

We bring volunteers and organisations together to have a positive, tangible impact on increasing the number of children receiving a proper education and improving the lives of children around the world. After your Right to Smile experience you will not just feel like you have done something worthwhile, but you will know your involvement has made an immeasurable difference.

In September 2011, Damien Attard travelled to Kenya to volunteer at a local school. On arrival, he found that adequate facilities and access to education was not available for the local school children.

This fuelled his passion to share the experience and do more; to create responsible, safe volunteering experiences which positively impact both the local villagers and the volunteers who are willing to dedicate their time and talents to facilitate change.

Right to Smile came to life in November 2011.

The need was there: to educate, to teach, to understand, to share, to break down barriers, to relate. How could we accomplish this? We are creating an organisation through which people can become directly involved in serving communities & learning from each other’s cultures through volunteer exchange programmes.

Welcome to Our Smile Revolution.
